CBD and Alcohol: Considering Combined Use

Over the past 10 years, we have seen a massive development in the delivery of CBD products, from gummies to skincare and everything in between. In a recent Forbes Health survey of 2,000 U.S. adults conducted by OnePoll, 60% of respondents said they’ve tried a CBD product, and 64% think CBD is safer than alcohol. So CBD and Alcohol – does it help?

Getting to Know CBD and Alcohol

For some time now CBD has been well known for helping with anxiety, pain relief, and better sleep. On the flip side, alcohol is seen as a more fast acting, social lubricant and not necessarily having any health benefits.

Health Hustle

Alcohol’s got a rap sheet, linking it to liver problems, heart issues, and addiction. Plus, there’s the immediate misery of hangovers. CBD, on the chill side, gets a nod from the World Health Organization for being generally safe with minimal side effects, but doesn’t have the obvious fast acting properties like alcohol.

CBD As An Alternative

With dry January coming to an end, people are hesitant to go back to their old ways, not missing the hangovers and rough weekends associated with Alcohol.

CBD & Alcohol – A match made in heaven?

The first question on most people’s minds is how do they work together or do they just bring out the worst in each other? Well we’ll need to turn to clinical studies for our answer here.

CBD Beer

CBD beer is becoming increasingly popular as a new kind of craft brew that blends cannabis and hops. When added to beer, CBD gives it a unique taste, often with hints of earthiness or herbs that mix well with the usual beer flavors.

But making CBD beer isn’t easy. There are rules and regulations about adding CBD to food and drinks that brewers have to follow. Plus, getting the right amount of CBD in each beer and keeping it stable during brewing and storage can be tricky.

CBD Wine

CBD wine is a new trend where CBD, a calming compound from cannabis, is added to wine. It blends the relaxation of CBD with the elegance of wine. When CBD mixes with wine, it adds a subtle herbal flavor that complements the wine’s taste.

People are interested in CBD wine because they believe it can help them relax and feel better. Although scientists are still studying CBD, many think it can reduce stress and anxiety. CBD wine offers a chance to unwind with a glass of wine while potentially boosting mood and relaxation.

The Studies of CBD Infused Beverages

Unfortunately we’re still early days with CBD in general but even more so with the effects of CBD and alcohol. With that being said a very early study was done, both in 1979 and again in 2017 and research was found to suggest that “The combination of alcohol plus CBD resulted in significantly lower blood alcohol levels compared to alcohol given alone”.

What Does This Mean?

Well we need to do more studies to confirm, as these studies were done on a combined 66 people over 4 weeks, but it would appear that as the CBD makes its way through the body alongside the alcohol it can actually help the liver manage the alcohol intake.

The Legal Limbo

The whole CBD and alcohol research scene has its highs and lows. We’re still figuring out what CBD really does, especially when it’s hanging out with alcohol. This leaves consumers and healthcare peeps a bit lost in the decision-making game. But hey, there’s a silver lining – more research means more answers. As the interest in CBD grows, so does the push for deep dives into its effects.

These studies are crucial not just for understanding CBD and alcohol solo but also for seeing how they vibe together in things like CBD-infused drinks. Maybe these studies will set the rules, making sure we’re all sipping safely and in the know. Who knows, a safer and smarter use of these two might be just around the corner.
